CEBU, Philippines – Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes and sixth District Rep. Luigi Quisumbing inaugurated the two-lane Capasanan Road in Barangay Casili, which now serves as an alternate road to Consolacion town and in going to the barangays of Pit-os and Talamban in Cebu City.
This P6-million road project connects the city to the Saksak Road in Consolacion, which is also a direct route to Cabangahan in Pit-os.
This new road can be accessed through Canduman Road and via Cubacub Road.
Cortes and Quisumbing were both present during the ceremonial ribbon-cutting for this project, which was funded by the city, the office of Quisumbing and Casili through its P500,000 counterpart.
Cortes said this new project is a product of partnership among the city, the Congress through Quisumbing and the barangay, which is a testament of how progress can happen through partnerships.
He said that apart from decongesting traffic, the new road is also aimed at spurring more trading activities in Mandaue and the neighboring areas, thereby increasing development there.
For his part, Casili Barangay Captain Paterno Cabatingan said he is set to coordinate with the adjacent Barangay Cubacub to help him lobby at the Congress to convert this road into a national road so that the Department of Public Works and Highways can widen it to become an alternative route. This, he said, will further ease out the congested highways nearby.
City planning and development coordinator Florentino Nimor admitted that the city’s roads are congested as the city is the only access for coming in and out of the province, it being near the airport.
However, he said once all road works are completed, this main headache will become a history. — Liv G. Campo (FREEMAN)
