CEBU, Philippines - A newly hired call center agent who was about to get a police clearance as work requirement was arrested by Talisay City Police yesterday morning after being caught allegedly possessing illegal drugs.
Jun Carlo Alfreda, 26, single, resident of Sitio Laray, Barangay San Roque, Talisay City, was placed behind bars.
Police Officer 3 Oliver Ortega told The FREEMAN he saw two male individuals heading towards their office yesterday while he was at work.
One of the men was later identified as Alfreda while the other one was a certain Clifford. Ortega said he saw the two laughing together when suddenly Alfreda picked what appeared to be a small sachet.
Ortega approached Alfreda and saw that the sachet allegedly contained illegal drugs. Ortega immediately handcuffed Alfreda.
A teary-eyed Alfreda said he has never used illegal drugs as he alleged that the small plastic sachet that he picked was owned by a woman who came from the police station.
"Magkuha ra tawn mi og police clearance, ang babaye ang tag-iya ato sa shabu," Alfreda said.
He said he was heading to the station to get police clearance as one of his requirements for a new job. He was concerned that the incident could hamper his employment.
The police are set to file drug charges against Alfreda.
"Nagpaduol lang gyud siya namo. Nagtuo nga dili namo dakpon," Ortega said. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc of Banat News
