METROPOLICE: Stab suspect yields after father’s advice

CEBU, Philippines - A 25-year-old man surrendered to authorities more than an hour after he allegedly stabbed another man last Tuesday morning.

Jesurey Paul Pepito,25, submitted himself to the personnel of Mandaue City Police Office after his father urged him to surrender.

After receiving a call from a concerned citizen, Senior Supt. Marcos Noval Jr. and Police Officer 2 Crestito Raboy of the MCPO went to the area where the suspect lives to fetch him.

During the arrest, Pepito also yielded the knife he reportedly used in stabbing his neighbor Marcelino Sarad, 31, who was then buying instant coffee in a nearby sari-sari store.

According to Noval, Pepito was only "tripping" when he stabbed Sarad Tuesday morning in Zone Talong, Barangay Paknaan. He added that Pepito was also high on drugs when he stabbed the victim many times.

According to the victim's wife, Mechil, 28, she heard a commotion around their neighborhood minutes after her husband left to buy coffee. She heard some of her neighbors saying that her husband was wounded.

"Nipalit unta na siya og kape para pamainit namo. Padung man mi duty. Unya nagsaba man among silingan, giingnan ko nga nagkadugo akong bana," Mechil said.

The victim was then brought immediately to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center because of the wounds he sustained in his body, particularly on his stomach and arm.

She said they have not yet met with the suspect's family to ask for medical assistance.

"Wala pa mi nakig-atubang nila. Unahon lang sa ko ni akong bana kay kinahanglan pa mang atimanon," the victim's wife said.

The police are expected to file charges of frustrated murder against Pepito today. The suspect is currently detained at Basak Police Station.

PO2 Raboy, who has personal knowledge about Pepito, said the suspect has been using illegal drugs for quite sometime. Raboy said Pepito's use of the illegal drugs was influenced by the suspect's peers.

"Gitarong man unta nang bataa, pero molikoy gyod ba," Raboy said. — Jave A. Matugas (FREEMAN)
