CEBU, Philippines – Cebu 1st District Representative Gerald Anthony "Samsam" Gullas yesterday met with Undersecretary Romeo Momo of the Department of Public Works and Highways, and pointed out the infrastructure projects in his district, for inclusion in the 2016 national budget.
Gullas mentioned to the DPWH official some his priority projects for 2016, such as the Linao-Lipata drainage in Minglanilla town; the drainage projects at barangays Poblacion, Cansojong and Tangke in Talisay City; the Dumlog Bridge in Sibonga town; and the Cebu-Toledo Wharf road.
The Linao-Lipata drainage project in Minglanilla is very urgent, said Gullas, citing that strong rains often cause traffic jam in the area due to flooding. "A well implemented drainage project will avert flooding and help decrease traffic in the area," he said.
The young congressman also said a drainage project at Poblacion in Talisay will also be his priority next year. "This would benefit not only Poblacion but also the neighboring barangays of Cansojong and Tangke.
Gullas further cited an incident last year when the Dumlog Bridge in Sibonga was rendered impassable after its approach collapsed due to flashfloods brought about by tropical storm Seniang.
There is a need to construct a permanent bridge now because the temporary two-lane steel bridge can only accommodate vehicles, weighing a maximum of 20 tons, but is slippery and dangerous to motorists, he said.
Gullas, a neophyte in Congress, told DPWH he will be asking for additional funding for the Talisay-Toledo Wharf Access Road, which will lead to the cities of Talisay, Toledo and Naga.
"I see so much potential in this road, which connects so many LGUs and different congressional districts. With the proper funding and implementation of this project, I see this as a road to be used by all types of people and motorists," he said.
Gullas said he has been proud of his accomplishments as a representative of the 1st district of Cebu, from June 2013 to June this year.
