APEC hosting hoped to boost Lapu-Lapu tourism

CEBU, Philippines – After the week-long Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings hosted by Lapu-Lapu City, Tourism Officer Hembler Mendoza said the event will further increase the influx of tourists and investors in the city.

“The APEC ministerial meeting also manifests how ready Lapu-Lapu is to hold international events because of the forged partnerships of both private and public entities, thus leaving a lasting impression to participants and organizers,” Mendoza said.

The Structural Reform Ministerial Meeting hosted by the National Economic Development Authority and Finance and Central Bank Deputies’ Meeting and organized by the Department of Finance were held in Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa last week.

“This is the reason why we are putting out best foot forward during the course of the meetings to showcase what we are and what we have in Lapu-Lapu being the Historic Resort City,” Mendoza said.

Delegates of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation visited the Liberty Shrine in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City last Saturday.

The delegates arrived and took photos of the Liberty Shrine, the area where the battle between Datu Lapu-Lapu and Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan is believed to have happened.

Mayor Paz Radaza and Vice Mayor Marcial Ycong and Senior Superintendent Armando Radoc of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office welcomed the delegates at the shrine.

From the APEC delegates’ feedback, Radoc said, the cultural tour made by the city encountered “no major problem” such as heavy traffic.

“No delegates or member of the party was a victim of crime. The delegates were very much grateful and satisfied of the hosting,” Radoc said.
