CEBU, Philippines – Mandaue City’s first-ranked councilor, Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon, is still awaiting the decision of the governor on who will be the standard bearer of the Liberal Party in the city.
After the Leadership and Good Governance Forum held at Benedicto College recently, Dizon said she wants Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III to expressly state who will be supported by LP to run as mayor.
“Naghuwat mi nga he (Davide) will be frank to us ba nga to tell us straight in front of us. Pero wala pa man sad daw,” Dizon said.
On Wednesday last week, Dizon said she met with Davide to inquire about the “situation” in Mandaue as she believed that the governor has already made a decision.
She quoted the governor saying he will do what he can to “unite” the possible candidates.
The councilor said she will respect whatever decision the LP will come up. However, Dizon said she is “open to other options” if ever she will not be chosen to run as mayor of Mandaue.
“Nakasabot ra ko, but I have to move on and open other options,” the first councilor said.
Dizon also said she will not force herself to be the standard bearer of LP. She admitted that “not only one” party has invited her to be their standard bearer.
Plans
During the forum yesterday, Dizon, who was the resource speaker, shared her six “dreams” for the city if she will become a mayor.
According to Dizon, her plans include an integrated development and plan for the city to mitigate floods, especially when rains occur. She is also planning to push for the reclamation in Paknaan-Labogon area to ease the traffic flow in the city streets.
She said Francis Tolentino, chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority, will help in the proposed study for the traffic master plan of Mandaue. By mid-month, she said, she will pass a resolution allowing the study for the traffic master plan.
Dizon also noted her quality education and employability programs for the constituents.
She also added the competitive business environment and employment generation, quality and time social services, and transparency and citizen participation as her “dreams” for the city.
