CEBU, Philippines - The sudden downpour in Metro Cebu yesterday caused flooding in some barangays in Mandaue City.
According to Felix Suico Jr., chief of Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, the unexpected heavy rains might have “choked” the waterways.
Suico described the flood in Barangay Banilad as “chest-deep” while the water level in some areas in Barangays Tipolo and Subangdaku was knee-deep.
The flood on Basubas Street in Tipolo was thigh-deep as the river beside San Miguel Brewery Inc. overflowed.
A.S. Fortuna Street and Barangay Guizo were also affected by the flood.
“Basta mokusog gani ang uwan unya kalit kaayo, mao ra’g ma-choke gani ang agianan sa tubig mao nang moawas,” Suico said.
However, Suico said that the flood quickly receded.
Suico said they will coordinate with the Department of Public Works and Highways in cleaning the drainage systems of the national roads in Mandaue.
Suico said the ceremonial routes for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings were not flooded. — Jave A. Matugas (FREEMAN)
