CEBU, Philippines - A 16-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide in Sitio Guisi, Barangay Agus in Lapu-Lapu City because his girlfriend broke up with him.
The out-of-school youth was reportedly found lying on the floor with a gunshot wound on his head around 10:55 in the morning, Tuesday.
Police Officer 3 Ronald Ong of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section said a bottle of alcohol and an improvised shot gun with an empty bullet storage were found in the crime scene.
It was around 10 a.m. when the minor was last seen alive, buying ice cream in a store near their house in Sitio Guisi, Ong said.
Investigation revealed that the victim's mother, Renelda, was washing their clothes few meters away from their house when she heard a gunshot.
After the gunshot, the curious Renelda went back to their house and was shocked to see his son lifeless on the ground.
Renelda cried for help from her neighbors and her son was rushed to the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital.
Ong said the boy was declared dead on arrival by Doctor Alicia Cortez.
The body of the victim was submitted to Surelife Funeral Homes for autopsy.
Godofredo, the minor's father, told police that his son felt sad and depressed after his girlfriend ended their relationship just days earlier.
On Tuesday, a 20-year-old student was also found dead along with her 28-year-old live-in partner after the latter allegedly shot her and himself on C. Padilla Street, Little Dalaguete, Barangay San Nicolas Proper, Cebu City.
Both Meljohn Niel Olmedo, an engineer working as a drafter at the Cebu I.T. Park in Apas, and his girlfriend Jennylyn Avila, a hospitality management student of the Asian College of Technology, had gunshot wounds to the head when found already lifeless inside their room.
Senior Police Officer 4 Alex Dacua, Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section investigator, said Meljohn and Jennylyn have just been living together at his parents' residence.
Dacua said that weeks before the incident, neighbors observed that the two were always fighting allegedly because Jennylyn had an affair with another man.
Neighbors told The FREEMAN that Meljohn was also a hot-tempered type of person.
Melchor, Meljohn's father, told investigators that at around 7 a.m. yesterday, he heard two gunshots from inside the room on the second floor of their house.
Alarmed, he dashed upstairs and found Meljohn and Jenny sprawled on the floor, both bloodied and already lifeless. Dacua said the only person in the room aside from the victims was Meljohn's minor cousin, who was sleeping and got awakened reportedly after the second gunfire.
Dacua said that when they arrived at the crime scene, they found the .45 pistol under the bed and away from Meljohn. (FREEMAN)
