More rooms, facilities as Lapu-Lapu hospital expands

CEBU, Philippines – A two-storey building Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital expansion will rise in Sitio Carajay, Barangay Gun-ob by the end of the year.

Mayor Paz Radaza disclosed the plan during her recent State of the City Address.

She said she received reports from residents who complained of sending their loved ones to far-away hospitals because the city's existing hospital does not have enough facility to cater to their needs.

"I hear you. Nakadungog ko sa inyong reklamo. I know how important affordable healthcare is," Radaza said.

The Department of Health is allocating P20.6 million for the expansion.

Emergency rooms, minor operating room, doctor's quarter, laboratory and X-ray rooms, including a blood bank, will be housed on the first floor of the expanded hospital. Six private rooms, as well as six beds each for male and female medical ward, will be housed on the second floor.

Another six beds for pediatric ward will be housed on the second floor.

"This will raise the (status) of our city hospital to Level 2, just a notch lower from private hospitals like Mactan Doctors’," she added.

Radaza also reported that another city hospital, the Sta. Rosa Hospital in Olango Island, received P14 million as part of the administration's Health Facility Enhancement Program.

"Our hospital in Olango is now considered Level 1 and the only hospital in Central Visayas with a Comprehensive Emergency Maternal Obstetric and Newborn Care or CEMONC facility," she said.

The city government received Plaques of Recognition from DOH for being a top-performing city in TB Cure Rate and Maternal Care Package Accreditation based on the 2013-2014 LGU scorecard nationwide, she said.
