Jealousy behind guard’s assault

CEBU, Philippines - The police are now hunting down a security guard who reportedly fired his service gun while on duty allegedly because of jealousy.

Operatives of the Basak Police Station in Mandaue City are now looking for Jonas Torres, resident of Barangay Opao, Mandaue City, and a security guard at Deca Homes Subdivision in Barangay Jagobiao.

Based on the investigation conducted by Basak police, residents of the said subdivision were alarmed and called up the police station after they heard a gunburst around 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday.

When residents came to check at the guardhouse of the said subdivision, they later found out that the suspect indiscriminately fired his gun in the presence of his female companion guard, Jennifer Yonson, 23, resident of Barangay Banilad, Cebu City.

Yonson happened to be the girlfriend of Torres.

Police said after Torres fired his gun after he had gone wild and engaged into a heated argument to Yonson. It was learned that the suspect and Yonson were into a heated argument because of jealousy.

When responding policemen arrived, Yonson sought for their help and a hot pursuit operation was immediately conducted for the possible arrest of Torres but the police failed to find him.

After the incident, Torres left behind his service firearm, a.38 caliber revolver with two live ammunitions which is now in the custody of the Basak Police Station. — (FREEMAN)
