CEBU, Philippines - Another criminal complaint for libel was filed Tuesday against international boxing judge and radio blocktimer Edward Ligas before the Mandaue City Prosecutor’s Office.
Cheryl Ouano, daughter-in-law of Provincial Board Member Thadeo Ouano, filed the complaint because of the alleged malicious commentaries made by Ligas in his radio program over dyKC on January 13.
Cheryl said Ligas has made insinuations in his commentaries that she and her father-in-law are having an illicit affair. She quoted in her complaint-affidavit the exact words allegedly used by the respondent on the air.
“Hahaha! Na kung matulog na kuno si Linda mga higala, pagmatulog na si Linda mga kaigsoonan, si Teddy Botitot mukamang kunong Cheryl mga higala, ambot magpahilot ba kaha kay gipanohot or magpamasahi kay gi-stress mga kaigsoonan. Dili na akoa kang Jun Areglo na. AH! Ah! makapahinumdum sad nako niadtong usa ka texter niadto nga ting huwaw mga higala aron makadaginot ug tubig ah si bokal Teddy og ilang katabang magdungan og kaligo.”
Cheryl said some of her friends and supporters of her father-in-law who heard the “malicious” program relayed the commentaries to her on January 14.
She immediately requested a copy of the broadcast from the National Telecommunications Commission. Cheryl said the NTC told her that it has already issued an order to the station to preserve the tape for future presentation once there is a proper order from the court.
Cheryl said Ligas was clearly referring to her in his commentary because she is known to her friends as Cheryl. She said her parents-in-law are also named Teddy and Linda Ouano.
Cheryl added that Ligas’ commentaries were centered on attacking her father-in-law and sister-in-law, Mandaue City Councilor Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano.
“Because the aforesaid commentaries of Edward Ligas is not only false but very malicious and obviously has no other purpose than to malign, degrade, bring me and my family into disrepute and excite derogatory feelings or opinions against me before the listening public in the comical manner that he spewed his comments and to sow intrigue within my family taking into account that my husband, children and I lived in the residence of Thadeo and Linda Ouano,” Cheryl said.
A similar complaint was also filed earlier by PB Member Ouano.
Ligas welcomed the complaint and expressed willingness to face the complainants in the proper forum.
“I’m looking forward to face Cheryl in a proper forum,” Ligas said.—/FPL (FREEMAN)
