METROPOLICE: Man hangs self after wife refused to give him coins

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A 41-year-old man allegedly committed suicide after his wife declined to give him coins which he was supposed to bet in a card game in Barangay Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City.

Fatima Villeno saw husband Rando Villeno hanging lifeless inside their shanty Tuesday night with an electrical wire tied around his neck and connected to the wooden beam of their hut.

Investigation showed that Rando was playing a card game in his neighbor's house and went home to ask coins from his wife, but the latter reportedly refused as she had "nothing to give."

Afterward, Fatima assisted her child to their comfort room outside while Rando, instead of going back to the game, switched off their house lights and electric fan.

When Fatima went back after 10 minutes, she discovered her husband already hanging dead.

Police Officer 2 Joseph Cutanda, homicide investigator at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, said the victim might have turned off the lights to use the electric cord in hanging himself.

Cutanda said Rando had a history of attempted suicides but his wife said she had been stopping his suicide plans.

Police found no disarray at the crime scene and no traces of foul play as there were no open wounds or marks in Villeno's body. — Christell Fatima M. Tudtud (FREEMAN)
