CEBU, Philippines – A 21-year-old man with a record of theft and robbery case was shot dead in Barangay Poblacion in Lapu-Lapu City yesterday evening.
Joseph Estores of Sitio Langub was walking his way out after watching a basketball game at the Lapu-Lapu City Auditorium when the suspect shot him in the belly.
The victim's body was brought to Sure Life Funeral Homes for autopsy.
Police recovered an empty bullet at the crime scene believed to have come from a .45 caliber pistol.
Initial investigation pointed to the victim's record of stealing as one of the motives of the killing.
A follow-up investigation is still being conducted to possibly determine the suspect who quickly left the place after the shooting.
Meanwhile, a certain Anicito Tilawan of Barangay Mactan sustained wounds on his wrist after the gun he was just holding out of curiosity went off.
Police said Tilawan was drinking with friends around 11 a.m. yesterday when two persons who were said to be gun dealers arrived and showed a .22 caliber pistol to the group.
Tilawan went to check the gun but he "accidentally" pulled its trigger and was hit in the left wrist.
His companions rushed Tilawan to the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital.
Police said they are now tracking down the gun dealers for possible identification after they successfully fled from the scene.
