CEBU, Philippines – At least 307 public and private drivers in Cebu City are facing arrest for failing to settle their obligations for traffic violations.
Jonathan Tumulak, operations chief of the City Traffic Operations Management, said the Municipal Trial Court in Cities has issued bench warrants against the drivers CITOM has charged before the court for violating the city's traffic code.
Covered by the warrant are 103 public utility vehicle drivers, 48 taxi drivers, and 27 owners of private vehicles.
"Mo-file man gyod og kaso ang CITOM sa mga drivers nga wala ni-adto sa opisina human gi-summon-an," Tumulak said, emphasizing that filing a complaint is one way to discipline erring drivers.
CITOM will withdraw the complaint if a driver settles his obligation.
Tumulak reminded drivers yet again to never disregard citation tickets issued to them when they are arrested for a traffic violation.
"Naa man gud mo-disregard lang kay simple citation tickets lang pero amo silang i-summon to appear and para maka-settle sa violation. Seven days after, mo-file na ang CITOM og kaso kun dili gyud mopakita sa opisina," he said.
"Mas maayo kun makig-settle gyud sa opisina kun maisyuhan og citation ticket para matabangan nato sila ug dili na magpaabot nga mapasakaan nato og kaso," he added.
Tumulak said there were drivers who settled their violations with CITOM, thus, were not included in the complaint before the court. – /JMO
