CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Mayor Johnny De los Reyes will be submitting to the City Council his proposed first supplemental budget for the purchase of garbage trucks and other equipment.
In a press conference, De los Reyes said he has directed City Solid Waste Management Officer Edwin Nierves to “work overtime as needed” to pick up trash in the city streets and address the growing garbage volume.
"I will be endorsing (the supplemental budget) to the City Council for the purchase of two 10-wheeler trucks and 10 garbage trucks, knowing the city's garbage problem," De los Reyes said.
As this developed, Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante and Council Majority Floor Leader Richard Francis Aznar said they will be waiting for the mayor’s proposal before the legislative body could take proper action.
"We will just wait for the submission of the supplemental before we will make any statement," Villarante told The FREEMAN.
Meanwhile, De los Reyes said the public will no longer suffer foul odor and flooding at Colis Street near the Tabunok public market as the Department of Public Works and Highways’ second engineering district already undertook drainage improvement in the area.
According to the mayor, the DPWH already funded drainage rehabilitation amounting to P3 million.
DPWH earlier said the drainage problem on Colis Street is local in origin since there is no national drainage system that connects to the drainage in the area. (FREEMAN)
