JVR names new information officer
CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Mayor Johnny De los Reyes has named Cynthia Barrit as city information officer, replacing Vince Monterde, who was temporarily designated the position through an executive order.
The mayor, however, clarified that Monterde was not demoted for the position but will instead function as the executive secretary to the mayor.
"Mr. Vince Monterde's item was executive secretary when he was hired by the mayor. He was only designated as information officer through executive order. So karon, si Sir Vince will now be functioning as executive secretary to the mayor," city administrator John Yre De los Reyes said.
Barrit, who is a former Board Secretary of Metropolitan Cebu Water District, was already introduced to the department heads yesterday.
De los Reyes dispelled speculations and rumors that Monterde's reassignment was because of his closeness to City Councilor Danilo Caballero, the former ally of the mayor who is now the possible runningmate of Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante in the 2016 elections.
"That is not true. We have the highest respect of Sir Vince that is why he will be functioning as executive secretary to the mayor. Everytime the mayor will visit barangays, he will be there," John Yre said.
In a separate interview with The Freeman, Monterde, a former newspaper reporter, confirmed the appointment.
