CEBU, Philippines – Talisay City Mayor Johnny De los Reyes is now in the process of effecting a major shake-up at City Hall after political relationship with some of his allies, particularly with Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante, has already turned sour.
Those who are said to be involved in the revamp will include Vince Monterde, who is currently the city information officer and head of the local disaster risk reduction office; city legal officer Alfredo Sipalay; and City Talisay-Traffic Operation Development Authority chief Mario Zafra.
A source agreed to reveal information this paper on condition that he will not be named since he is not authorized to speak about it.
Pressed to confirm the “revamp and shakeup,” Sipalay said he has already heard of such talks.
“Wala pa’y official confirmation,” Sipalay told The FREEMAN. Monterde, however, said he is not aware of the revamp.
“I will wait for the official communication from the mayor, but as of now, I will continue my functions as city information officer and head of the local disaster risk reduction officer,” Monterde said.
It was learned that Monterde was already informed about the revamp. There will be memorandum informing him that he is no longer the head of the local disaster risk reduction council, instead he will be designated as a member.
The source said while a replacement is also being considered for Monterde as information officer, De los Reyes reportedly wants to retain him in the position, citing his background as former reporter in one of Cebu’s major newspapers.
“Ang official communication ni Vince Monterde kay information officer pa man pero ang confirmed kay he will be a member of the local disaster instead of head officer,” the source said.
Mario Zafra, on the other hand, has received a termination order as head of traffic.
However, other officials appointed by the previous administration who are “doing well in their posts” will be retained, while those whom De los Reyes think are effective handling other positions will be transferred.
Sipalay and Zafra are closely identified with Villarante while Monterde is close to City Councilor Danilo Caballero, who is the possible runningmate of Villarante in the 2016 elections.
