CEBU, Philippines – A 36-year-old man, believed to have committed suicide, was found hanging lifeless in his room yesterday morning in Barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City.
Erwin Abellanida was hanging from a beam when discovered by his own nine-year-old daughter.
Senior Police Officer 2 Renato Canja of Casuntingan Police Station said prior to the incident, the victim asked her daughter to buy cellphone load for him.
But before leaving the house to run the errand for his father, the latter reportedly asked her daughter what she would do if ever he died.
Upon her return, the girl saw her father hanging on the beam of their house and this prompted her to shout for help.
The police and the Scene of the Crime Operatives arrived but failed to see any suicide note at the crime scene.
During inquiry with the victim’s relatives and neighbors, it was found out that the victim has been problematic lately because he was unable to pay the rent of their house for the past four months and his ATM card was already in the hands of a “loan shark.”
Neighbors said the victim might have become even more problematic after his wife, who currently works in Taiwan, no longer sends him money for their daily needs.
