CEBU, Philippines – Mayor Johnny "JVR" De los Reyes has designated his son, city administrator John Yre De los Reyes, to head the garbage collection disposal section of Talisay City effective January 1.
In an executive order issued yesterday, JVR said he wants to improve garbage collection in the city.
"I am tasked to maintain the cleanliness of the city particularly in the collection of garbage," John Yre said as he confirmed his new designation.
John Yre admitted that the city has been receiving reports over the "poor" performance of garbage collection team with more garbage allegedly left uncollected everyday.
As new head, John Yre said he will be implementing clean up drive, especially in Barangay Tabunok and Lagtang, every Sunday.
John Yre stressed that Talisay is growing and the number of households has also surged thereby requiring an increased capacity and efficient garbage collection system.
He said he will be requesting the mayor for a compactor truck, which has a bigger capacity than conventional garbage trucks, to speed up collection.
The city has 11 garbage trucks but only few are operational while 16 of the 22 barangays currently own a garbage truck.
John Yre said cooperation of each resident of the barangays is very important to sustain cleanliness and sanitation in the city.
