CEBU, Philippines – Looc Barangay Councilor Raul Kevin Cabahug is the 2014 awardee of the Achievement Award given by the Cabahug Clan Foundation Inc.
Cabahug, 30, received the said award during the 30th Cabahug Clan anniversary and Honor the Outstanding Family Award at the New White Gold House restaurant in Cebu City last week.
The Achievement Award is given every two years to any outstanding member of the Cabahug clan and other clan achievers.
It was launched in 1983 to honor the great statesman, the late chief Justice Sotero Cabahug, who served the three branches of government.
Former Mandaue City vice mayor Carlo Cabahug Fortuna was also a recipient of the said award.
Cabahug has been chosen by the Board of Trustees of the Cabahug clan to receive the award for last year because of his long-term service in Mandaue.
Cabahug started his public service at the age of 17, wherein he was first elected as SK chairman of Barangay Looc and at the same time vice president of the SK Federation from 2002 to 2007.
He also served as barangay councilor of Looc from 2007 up to 2016 and at present he is also the President of the Barangay Councilors League of the Philippines-Mandaue City Chapter and a member of BCLP National Board of Directors.
"Ako ni e-share ninyo mga Loocanons ang ako nadawat na pasidungog gikan sa among banay kay kining tanan ako nakab-ot tungod sa inyong pagsalig sa akong liderato. Natagaan ko'g oportunidad nga makaserbisyo and to my BCLP Mandaue and National family," Cabahug said in his Facebook account.
Mayor Jonas Cortes, who was the guest of honor during the said awarding ceremony, said he hopes that more family members of the Cabahug clan will follow in the path of Sotero Cabahug.
"It is incumbent upon every member of the Cabahug clan to follow his path… our community, our city needs another Sotero Cabahug who thinks not only of himself but of the common good. In our own little way, we can make our city truly our own, our pride and our future," Cortes in his speech said.
The mayor also said the city implements the Performance Governance System (PGS) at present in partnership with the Institute of Solidarity for Asia, a path traversed by Sotero Cabahug.
Among the legacies of Sotero Cabahug while he was still occupying high positions in the government are the Cebu Provincial Capitol building, the Rizal Library and the Mandaue Presidencia or the Mandaue City Hall.
