CEBU, Philippines - At least 220 barangay officials in Talisay City are set to receive their productivity enhancement incentives (PEI) bonus by next week.
City budget officer Edgar Mabunay yesterday said he is finalizing the supplemental budget of the 22 barangays.
Mabunay said some barangay officials will receive up to P40,000 each while others will receive not less than P20,000, hoping that their PEI will be released before Christmas Day.
“Tanang barangays naay savings unya nagahinan gyud nila para sa ilang PEI tungod kay wala baya SK,” Mabunay said.
There are 22 barangays in the city. The composition of the barangay includes the barangay chairman and seven elected barangay councilmen while the secretary and treasurer are appointed officials.
Mabunay cited the provisions of a circular from the Department of Budget Management, specifically Section 9 which states “local government employees including those in barangay governments who are compensated through monthly honoraria maybe granted a one-time PEI at rates determined by their respective sanggunians depending on the LGU financial capability and subject to the 45 percent PS limitations.”
Mabunay said the PEI is on top of the employees’ 13th month pay and the P5,000 bonus as mandated by law.
Yesterday, the 328 regular employees, including the elected officials, received their P30,000 Christmas bonus.
Last Tuesday, the City Council approved the second supplemental budget worth more than P35 million that includes the bonuses for regular workers. (FREEMAN)
