CEBU, Philippines – A 21-year-old man died after an unidentified assailant shot him while he was sleeping in the house of his friend past midnight on Sunday in South Poblacion, Naga City.
Antollin Salem, of Barangay Tina-an, Naga City died of a lone gunshot wound to the chest.
Police Officer 3 Kieth Nuñeza of Naga City Police alert team said Salem asked his friend Zarell Cogonon, 22, if he could stay for the night.
Cogonon agreed but he told Salem to use the bed on the first floor while he will sleep on the second floor and after few minutes of talk they both decided to sleep. Cogonon went upstairs leaving his friend on the first floor.
Cogonon noticed an explosion believed to have come from the first floor but he was too afraid to check so he waited until morning to see what happened.
When he went downstairs he saw the victim lying on his bed but no longer moving. He called his friend but he was not responding that made him think that something might have happened.
Upon checking the man on the bed, he discovered that he was covered with blood, so he reported the incident to the police.
Nuñeza said they discovered the victim was already dead.
The police are yet to determine the caliber of firearm used to kill the victim. But they have a hint that the unidentified assailant might have used a revolver since no empty shells were recovered from the crime scene.
The police are yet to identify the killer and the motive of the killing. —/JRS
