Pastor shoots son he 'disowned'
CEBU, Philippines - For allegedly breaking into his house, a pastor reportedly shot a son he had already "disowned" in Sitio Kalipayan, Barangay Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu City.
Seferino Osorio, 60, a preacher at the Christ Base Learning and Community Church, allegedly used an unlicensed firearm in shooting Lemuel Osorio, 33.
Lemuel, a former licensed teacher in a public school in Punta Engaño, was brought by Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Station 2 personnel to their office for interrogation after he only sustained a minor wound in his back.
According to Police Officer 3 John Carlo Jocutan of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Crime Against Persons Desk, the victim was having his lunch in the house of his parents when Seferino, his biological father, arrived.
Seferino reportedly confronted his son about personal matters especially on his alleged use of prohibited drugs.
The father claimed that his son squandered his savings on drugs. In fact, Seferino and his wife have long disowned Lemuel out of fear that their son might hurt them.
The "long sermon" from his father allegedly irked Lemuel, leading him to punch his father on the face.
Fuming with anger, Seferino went to his room to get his firearm, got back to his son at the table and shot him once.
The victim, according to Jocutan, sustained a grazed wound on his lower back.
Accounts from the father said that his son was a drug addict and steals properties from their house. He claimed that it was also the reason why Lemuel had stopped teaching.
Lemuel, for his part, said he has a right to enter into his father's house because he is his son.
Seferino surrendered to the police his .357 caliber firearm with five live bullets and one empty shell.
He is temporarily detained at the LCPO detention cell and will face a case of attempted parricide if his son pursues a legal battle against him. (FREEMAN)
