CEBU, Philippines – Two barangays in Talisay City are now officially cleared of insurgency and ready for development, authorities said.
The barangays of Lawaan III and Tangke were recommended as "insurgent-free and development-ready" following the assessment and validation conducted by the Task Force Sugbo of the Central Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
In an interview with The FREEMAN, city police chief Superintendent Reycel Carmelo Dayon said the proclamation is solely based on facts and findings of the designated intelligence group of the Philippine Navy assigned to conduct thorough surveillance and to validate insurgency reports received by the AFP on these barangays.
"Mao man gyud ni (Tangke and Lawaan III) ang bailiwick sa mga walhon kaniadto pero karon wala na," Dayon said.
As per recommendation by the City Peace and Order Council, which is co-chaired by Councilor Danilo Caballero, a resolution declaring the two barangays as insurgency-free will be made. Caballero, chairman of the committee on peace and order, authored the resolution yesterday.
In 2010, the AFP and the Philippine National Police, as well as then Cebu governor Gwendolyn Garcia, declared Cebu as insurgency-free.
