CEBU, Philippines- The man who earlier shot a cop outside a police station in Barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City voluntarily surrendered to City Police officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Armando Radoc last Monday evening.
Jeffrey Bayon, 20, a resident of Dimataga Street, Barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City personally admitted to the shooting of Police Officer 1 Exequiel Melodia II.
After the submission, the operational search for Melodia's shooter has been called off.
Radoc said it was the former congressman Arturo "Boy" Radaza who contacted him that the suspect's parents approached his brother Vic Radaza and presented their son.
Bayon, in his surrender, was assisted by Police Senior Inspector Wilbert Parilla of LCPO Station 3, Vic Radaza and his parents.
In their conversation, the suspect admitted to the police chief that he shot Melodia after feeling scared when Melodia went near him that night.
According to the report, Melodia, before the time he was shot, went outside the sub-station's police quarters located in the market to buy cigarettes.
Outside, he noticed a man loitering around the area beside his unregistered motorcycle so he decided to invite him to the police station.
Melodia approached the suspect and asked him if he can go with him to the police station but suddenly, the man took out his unidentified gun and shot Melodia, hitting the back portion of his body.
Melodia will undergo surgical operation because the bullet reportedly hit his spinal column.
The bullet hit Melodia in the lower back and exited his shoulder.
Bayon immediately fled from the crime scene and reportedly threw to the sea his .38 cal. revolver allegedly used in the shooting.
