Solon, group hold medical mission

CEBU, Philippines - The office of Cebu sixth district Representative Luis Gabriel Quisumbing in partnership with the Philippine Academy of Dermatologic Surgery Foundation Inc. held a free medical mission yesterday at Labogon National High School in Mandaue City.

Thirteen doctors led by their President Dr. Maria Lourdes Uyehara-Scher, together with five other nurses and volunteer student-nurses of the Southwestern University, conducted minor surgeries, free consultations and medical check-ups and gave medicines to Quisumbing's patient-beneficiaries.

Dr. Uyehara-Scher said it has been their third time to conduct a medical mission for the constituents of the sixth district as they have already served Barangays Umapad and Subangdaku earlier this year.

She said they are also hoping to hold free medical missions in Camotes Island and Davao next year.

Yesterday, the constituents were given the chance to have minor operations such a warts and mole removal.

They also checked patients with severe skin diseases and gave them referrals to government hospitals.

Those who came suffering from diabetes, thyroids and hypertension were being educated on their illnesses and advised to seek specialist's aid.

Uyehara- Scher also said 300 patients were given free consultations yesterday while 50 underwent minor surgeries.

When they give free medicines, they make sure the patients are given complete dose of medicines as they are aware that most who come for the medical mission are indigents, she added.

She also said that PADSFI medical mission is part of their social commitment to the community as most of these doctors give up time to provide social services.

For his part, Quisumbing said it has been their commitment to give a better quality of life to residents of the sixth district and to assure constituents to continue holding activities like medical missions.

"We are thankful to PADSFI for supporting our endeavors and for being our committed partner in delivering basic health services for our indigent patients. In the sixth district of Cebu, health is our priority," Quisumbing said. (FREEMAN)
