CEBU, Philippines - The Subport of Mactan customs collection office here has collected an all time-high revenue for the government for the first half of 2014.
It is a historic feat for the Subport led by OIC Collector Gerry Campo, a native of Clarin, Bohol but has roots in Talisay City, Cebu.
"It was maybe out of luck but really we did our best to have this," Campo told MetroCebu News in a mixture of English and Cebuano.
"Everybody contributed to it and hence we accomplished this sort of historic achievement since we have broken the records of the past," he added.
The Subport where the Mactan-Cebu International Airport sits collected P233.9 million surpassing the previous record of P193.1 million which was established for the same period last year.
As a tradition, the Bureau of Customs sets a monthly revenue target and as another historic achievement, the Subport did not have collection shortfall from January to June.
The P233.9 million actual collection is even higher by P39.7 million of the assigned revenue target of P194.2 million for the period registering a positive deviation of 20.44 percent.
"This is really being cherished by everybody here, everyone did his part. This is actually a team effort," Campo added. — metrocebu.com
