Mandaue to regulate use of roller skates, boards

Jose P. Sollano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A Mandaue City councilor introduced an ordinance regulating the use of roller skates, roller blades and roller boards on all public roads and streets in the city.

Mandaue City Councilor Elstone Dabon, chairman of the City Council's Committee on Transportation, filed the proposed ordinance in order to prevent incidents in the streets.

According to Councilor Dabon, there is vast growth and multiple vehicular accidents and any other forms of street mishaps in the city linked to the use of the same.

The city councilor said in order to lessen the incidents, there is a need to regulate their use.

However, Councilor Dabon said the City Traffic Management Team should look into the possibility of having a designated place where those who own roller skates, blades and boards could utilize.

Under the proposed ordinance, any person  who is found violating the order  shall be penalized  by a fine of  not less than P500  and more than P1,000  or by an imprisonment of  not less than 10 days  but not exceeding 15 days or both  at the discretion of the court plus the confiscation of the roller skates, roller blades and roller boards used by the violator.  (FREEMAN)
