CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Council has urged the Department of Labor and Employment to strengthen their campaign against discrimination.
City Councilor Alvin Dizon said one of the most violated human rights is the right of laborers against discrimination on the inhumane practice of employers in imposing age restrictions on job applicants in billboards and job advertisements.
Because of this, he authored a resolution for DOLE to intensify its advocacy and campaign against discrimination by employers who impose age limit on billboards and advertisements for job vacancies.
Dizon said there have been several complaints from applicants who were not able to apply for a job opportunity because companies "impose age restrictions on job applicants."
Dizon's resolution also states that employers should be reminded that these discriminatory practices violate existing laws and regulations, and are unfair and illegal.
"Kay naa may mga applicants nga taas-taas na og edad and qualified pero ang mga employers naay age limit nga gi-impose which is discriminatory," said Dizon.
Meanwhile, the City Council also urged DOLE to incorporate public information campaign on constitutionally protected rights of workers to promote awareness of both job applicants and the employer. (FREEMAN)
