CEBU, Philippines - A motorcycle driver and a back-rider met their untimely death after hitting the road pavement in a vehicular accident in Barangay Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City early morning on Monday.
Esmeraldo Pantaleon, who resides in Barangay Opao, Mandaue City, was identified as the driver of a Honda motorcycle with plate number 3709 issued under the name of Ronnie Naranjo.
Pantaleon was also seen with a back-rider, John Michael Rafaeliz, 19, who also lives in the same barangay.
Police Officer Caesar Gabuk of Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management System said around 6:45 a.m., the two were onboard on the motorcycle and upon reaching Barangay Ibo near Shemberg Food Ingredients Corporation, Pantaleon allegedly sped off.
The motorcycle went out of control. Because of the impact, Pantaleon and Rafaeliz got dislodged from the motorcycle and slammed down into the pavement.
The driver hit his head on the concrete road which resulted to his death.
The back-rider obtained injuries and was immediately brought to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center by the responding Emergency Response Unit Foundation paramedics team but was declared dead upon reaching the hospital.
