CEBU, Philippines - A 44-year-old man is now in critical condition after he was stabbed by his own brother during a heated quarreling Wednesday afternoon inside their residence in Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City.
Alex Pangatungan, a resident of Sitio Bagumbayan, Barangay Maribago, was rushed to Lapu-Lapu City Hospital after he sustained a severe wound in the left side of his body when stabbed by his younger brother.
The victim was later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for further medication.
Police identified the suspect as Tommy Pangatungan, 35, also a resident of said place.
Initial police investigation revealed that moments prior to the incident, the victim and the suspect were having a confrontation regarding family matters around 2 p.m. when suddenly the suspect took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed his brother.
The suspect fled immediately while the victim was rushed to hospital.
A hot pursuit operation was conducted for the possible arrest of the suspect but the efforts turned futile as the police could no longer trace the suspect.
It was also learned from the police that no case was filed against the suspect since none of the family members cooperated with the police in the preparation of the filing of charges.
Meanwhile, a seven-year-old boy who drowned in the waters off Barangay Caohagan, Lapu-Lapu City was already dead when rushed to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
Vincent Russell Arranges, a resident of said place and a Grade 1 pupil, was found unconscious by his mother Loida Aying.
It was learned from the victim's mother that she was just being complacent in allowing his son to go on swimming with his cousins and friends as the boy would often opt to stay in shallow water and is afraid go too far and swim.
However, at around 2 p.m. Tuesday, which was a high tide, her son and a six-year-old cousin went swimming without her knowledge. (FREEMAN)
