CEBU, Philippines - The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation will support the Department of Education in building new schools in select Cebu City areas.
Mayor Michael Rama went to Manila recently with a goal to coordinate with the PAGCOR. He said PAGCOR will assure to support Cebu City in building new schools due to its growing population.
Rama said the first selected areas are in Inayawan and Guadalupe. A groundbreaking ceremony for both places is set initially in June.
Mayor Rama said there is still no amount of money discussed but he said help is already assured.
Michole Jacalan, residing in Barangay Guadalupe and also a student of Ramon Duterte Guadalupe High School, complained about the big crowd that he experienced in their clasroom.
"Daghan kaayo ko ug classmates; unya 60 mi kapin sa usa ka classroom. Para nako, puno na kaayo mi sa among eskwelahan di ko katarung og paminaw sa maistra (I have a lot of classmates; we're 60-plus in the classroom. For me, our school is too crowded and that makes me distracted from listening to the teacher)," he said.
Jacalan said he expects PAGCOR's help as answer to the problem students encounter in their schools. (FREEMAN)
