Free Wi-Fi on streets Lapu all set for Kadaugan

CEBU, Philippines -  It's all systems go for the weeklong Kadaugan sa Mactan celebration this year with the Kadaugan Street Party set for April 26 and 27.

Councilor Harry Don Radaza, co-chairman of the Lapu-Lapu Tourism and Historical Affairs Commission, said the Kadaugan Sa Mactan Summer Street Party dubbed as "Island Sound" will kick off Saturday featuring electronic dance music that highlights Cebu's finest disc jockeys and special guest bands.

There are about 13 DJs in Cebu who will be playing at the two-day street party that will span from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. to give way for Reyna Bulakna Pageant on Saturday evening and Rampada Street Dancing on Sunday night.

The area where the whole party will be held will be bound by free Wi-Fi connections.

Representatives of the sponsoring companies assured the media that there will be 10 megabytes per second internet connection within the perimeter of M.L. Quezon National Highway in Barangay Pajo from the foot of Mandaue-Mactan Bridge to the foot of Marcelo B. Fernan Bridge.

For the Wi-Fi coverage, sponsors will block websites with explicit contents.

There will be a Wi-Fi password to be given to the public at the entrance to the street party.  This allows the partygoers to have an access to post their "selfies" and other photo uploads of their whereabouts in the social media. In turn, this will promote the Kadaugan celebration.

There will be a two-minute idle time for the Wi-Fi connection to give way for the other Wi-Fi users for the given time. They added there is no bandwidth and download quota, as well as maximum connection time.

Radaza, meanwhile, reminded the public there will be no bottles and glasses to be allowed in the area but only plastic utensils.

Different radio stations will also be present in the party that is set to give the public a party vibe. A fireworks display is scheduled at 12:01, Sunday dawn.

Roads will close as early as 6 o'clock Saturday morning and will open in the wee hours of the morning of April 28. (FREEMAN)
