Indigents welcome to get free coffins

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Mayor Johnny V. De los Reyes announced his administration will continue giving free coffins and funeral services to Talisay City indigents who pass away.

The move, according to the mayor, would help ease the burden of mourning for the less fortunate Talisaynons.

De los Reyes said the relatives would not have to spend a lot since the city government would provide free coffin, funeral services and burial lot for the deceased.

The city government had partnered with St. Francis and Mt. Olive funeral parlors, which are sponsors to the free funeral program.

This is part of the 100-day program of the city mayor and a continuation to the program of the previous administration.

To avail of the program, a barangay clearance and death certificate of the deceased are required. The city hall will then issue a certificate that will be presented to any of the partner funeral homes.

To date, there are 300 estimated recipients of the mayor's program. — Juffer Denn C. Bornales and Lara Praz C. Mayol, CNU Comm Interns (FREEMAN)
