CEBU, Philippines - The Alayon Party had endorsed a former vice mayor to replace the late Minglanilla councilor Eduardo Ma. Selma in the municipal council.
Jaime Caumeran, former vice mayor and a former three-term councilor, said he already got the endorsement of Selma's party, Alayon, as well as the municipal council's.
"Gi-endorse nako sa Alayon ug konseho. But kinahanglan pa man og endorsement sa governor," said Caumeran in an interview with The FREEMAN.
Caumeran said once he gets Governor Hilario Davide's confirmation, he will take his oath of office before Mayor Elanito Peña.
Caumeran tried to make a comeback in politics when he ran for the council in the last May 2013 elections but failed.
Many have considered him likely to get the post vacated after Selma's death.
Selma, 77, died of complications due to pneumonia last February 17.
Under the Local Government Code, the party of the member, who caused the vacancy in the council, has the right to endorse replacement. (FREEMAN)
