Men in helmets shoot a Lapu local to death
CEBU, Philippines - A man died after he was shot several times by two men on board a motorcycle Sunday evening in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City.
After sustaining several gunshot wounds in his body and head, Escel Remulta, 24, resident in the barangay, was rushed to Lapu-Lapu City Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by an attending physician.
Police investigation revealed the victim was loitering and then stopped beside an old chapel along a road when suddenly two offenders wearing helmets appeared on board a motorcycle. The back rider then approached the victim and fired several shots hitting the latter in the head and body to slump to the ground.
The suspects fled immediately towards unknown direction and nobody was able to identify them or the motorcycle they were using.
Six empty shells of 9mm pistol were recovered at the crime scene by responding policemen.
Police are still conducting further investigation to determine the motive of the killing and identification of the suspects.
Meanwhile, a 45-year-old taxi driver got injured after he was hacked by a roasted chicken vendor Sunday evening in Barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City.
Delfino Caminade, resident of Sector 3, Barangay Pagsabungan, landed in hospital after sustaining a wound on his left arm from the suspect who used a chopping knife.
Police investigation revealed the victim, together with his 15-year-old daughter, parked their vehicle along H. Abellana Street to buy something at a store near a roasted chicken stall.
The vendor at the roasted chicken stall, identified as Gerry Cabusao, reportedly got irked because his vehicle was blocking the stall owned by the suspect's employer.
The suspect then confronted the victim and asked him to move the vehicle but the victim told him to just wait for a little while as they would be leaving soon.
However, the suspect allegedly did not listen to the victim's explanation and continued "to throw harsh words to the victim." Not contented, he took the chopping knife from the stall and hacked Caminade.
Fortunately, Caminade was able to parry Cabusao's thrust and wounded only his left arm before running away.
Caminade's son, together with an uncle, immediately reported the incident to Basak Police.
Authorities failed to arrest the suspect during a hot pursuit while the victim was brought to the Eversly Child's Hospital and Sanitarium and was later advised to transfer to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
