CEBU, Philippines - The ten convicted persons involved in the mega shabu laboratory case in 2004 were finally transported to the National Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.
Mandaue City Jail Warden Police Chief Inspector Gil Inopia in a press conference on Thursday announced that the 10 suspects, who were sentenced to life imprisonment in 2012 over their involvement in the operation of the mega shabu laboratory in Barangay Umapad, Mandaue City, were transported through commercial airplanes last March 23.
The convicts were identified as Allan Garcia, LinLi Ku, Joseph Lopez, Liu Bo, Siew Kin Weng, Tao Fei, Wu Tiao Yi, Joseph Yu, Bao Xiafu and Liew Kam Song.
They were escorted towards the Mactan Cebu International Airport with the help of the jail personnel coming from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and 30 policemen from the Mandaue City Police Office.
Inopia said that it has been a standard operating procedure that all "insular prisoners" or those prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment will be sent to the NBP after three years of their conviction from a local court. This is also one way of decongesting the jail facility.
Inopia added that the prisoners were surprised that they were not informed beforehand about their transfer but he explained that the holding of such information was a matter of security measure. (FREEMAN)
