CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City government has planned to build a Solar Energy Plant at the eight-hectare lot in the mountain barangay of Maghaway.
According to the Public Information Office (PIO) bulletin recently published, Climate Change Commission Secretary Heherson Alvarez and Energy Undersecretary Raul Aguilos presented a plan for the said project.
Talisay City Mayor Johnny Delos Reyes said he and the country’s climate change czar met last August to discuss the project.
Delos Reyes explained the energy consumers will soon pay lower electric utility bills if the city will adopt the solar power plant in Maghaway.
The bulletin said Alvarez had told Delos Reyes that the Belgian government will assist them in the technical and financial aspects of the project.
Early this year, Alvarez met the Belgian Ambassador Roland Van Remoortele to discuss the project.
It said Alvarez’s office and the Department of Energy are now conducting project studies for the construction of solar power infrastructure in the area. —/JRS (FREEMAN)
