Lapu brgy, MEZ locator agree to train, hire residents

CEBU, Philippines - A factory operating in Mactan Export Zone has forged an agreement with the Barangay Council of Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City to train village residents to give them a chance to work in the zone.

Officials of Barangay Pajo and Sports City International (SCI), who runs Metro Wear and Global Wear Apparels inside MEZ yesterday signed a Memorandum of Agreement.

Pajo Barangay Captain Junard “Ahong” Chan represented the barangay, while Kim Francisco, represented the locator being the manager of Sports City International.

Barangay officials of Pajo endorsed the program in a resolution.

Chan said under the MOA, the Barangay Council of  Pajo will assist the residents in their training, while the company will hire them for work.

Qualified residents can avail of the two-week training for sewing. After the training they can avail of the free barangay clearance and certification needed for filing their application for work in the MEPZ.

Francisco, for her part, said they will lend 25 sewing machines to Barangay Pajo for the use of the training.

Pajo residents who will complete the training and pass the evaluation will be given priority in hiring of the companies operated by Sports City International.

Chan said that the program will give his constituents the priority to land for jobs available in Metro Wear and other companies inside MEZ.  (FREEMAN)
