In Mandaue City warning stickers launched
CEBU, Philippines - Stickers that aim to discourage the commission of a crime are now displayed in different business establishments in Mandaue City.
A sticker seen at the entrance of Gaisano Grandmall says “Beware. We are watching you.†CCTV cameras cover the mall as well.
Mayor Jonas Cortes and MCPO director P.Sr./Supt. Petronelli Baldebrin launched this campaign last Thursday.
“We encourage establishments to post the stickers. We heard about the “martilyo gang†striking in malls in Metro Manila. We don’t want that to happen in Mandaue,†Baldebrin said.
Last December, robbers armed with hammers robbed a jewelry store in a mall in Metro Manila in broad daylight. The suspects bought the hammers from a hardware store inside the same mall.
Baldebrin urged business owners to comply with a city ordinance that requires business establishments to install surveillance or closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to deter criminals.
Footages from these cameras help the police solve crimes.
Senior Insp. Allan Cuizon, MCPO deputy chief for operations, said having surveillance cameras and posting warning stickers will not only deter criminals but will also increase customer confidence. (FREEMAN)
