Talisay to honor Davide, Duterte

CEBU, Philippines - Governor Hilario Davide III and Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte are among the 10 persons to be recognized during the 13th commemoration of the signing of the Charter of the City of Talisay on Sunday.

Talisay City Mayor Johnny De los Reyes yesterday said these important persons will each be given a plaque of recognition for extending help to the city after Typhoon Yolanda left destruction in its wake.

To also receive plaques of recognition include Mayors Michael Rama of Cebu City, Jonas Cortes of Mandaue City, and Ricardo Ramirez of Medellin town.

DOLE regional director Chona Mantilla, DSWD regional director Mercedita Jabagat, Commodore William Melad of the Philippine Coast Guard, Commodore Reynold Yoma of the Naval Forces, and BFAR regional director Andres Bojos are also among the awardees.

De los Reyes said all is set for the celebration at the Talisay City Hall grounds.

Talisay City, which celebrates its Charter Day every 12th of January, became Cebu’s component city on Dec. 30, 2000 by virtue of Republic Act 8979, which former congressman Eduardo Gullas authored.

Gullas, who served as the city’s first mayor, authored Republic Act 8979, which helped turn the coastal town into a city. (FREEMAN)
