Police “asset” shot dead

CEBU, Philippines - An alleged informer of the Basak police station in Mandaue City was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle on New Year’s Day at around 4:55 am.

Marno Datuleyta Jr., alias “Mopats,” 33, married, and a resident of Zone Agbati in Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City, was taken to the Mandaue City Hospital.

Police station chief P. Sr./Insp. Genilo Veraque said Datuleyta was drinking with his friends.

While they were at it, one of his friends quarreled with another person and Datuleyta reported the incident to the police.

When Datuleyta and the police arrived, the two men who had quarreled had left the place.

The police, before leaving the place, advised Datuleyta to go home to avoid getting into trouble.

But the man preferred to remain at the place and continued drinking with his friends.

At past 4 a.m., one of  two men on a motorcycle shot Datuleyta, hitting him on both thighs and ankle. Another man was hit on the hand by a stray bullet.

Datuleyta was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

“Dili man dyud unta ni hinginom ning bataa, ambot nganong nagpabilin pa man dyud siya sa lugar imbes nga gi-advisan na nga mouli na lang aron di na maamong. Natiktikan man gud ni siya nga misumbong sa polis ug posibli nga mao to’y hinungdan nga gipusil siya,” Veraque said.

Police found two empty cal. 9mm shell and a live bullet at the crime.
