15 urban poor families are Kalinga beneficiaries

CEBU, Philippines - At least 15 families from Barangay Tunghaan, Minglanilla town has acquired houses as beneficiaries of the Sugbo-Gawad Kalinga (GK) Village Housing Project.

Governor Hilario P. Davide III congratulated the beneficiaries during the turnover of the keys to their houses.

He said the project is a real example of Public-Private Partnership.

“Ampingi gyud kini kay usa sa basic need nato mao man gyud ang shelter. Dako gyud kining blessing kung aduna kitay kaugalingong balay,” Davide said.

Lexmark Research and Development Corporation built some houses for free, as part of its corporate social responsibility, while GK served as the administrator and implementor of the project in 2009.

Paul Dela Serna, GK Project Area director, said Capitol will be paid by the members of the GK Village Homeowners Association, Inc. for the lots through the Community Mortgage Program in a 35-year period.

The recipients will pay P650 a month.

There are 88 households already occupying the area with 72 of them coming from the province-owned lots in Cebu City.

GK Community Development Foundation, Inc. screened the beneficiaries.
