CEBU, Philippines - About 5,000 senior citizens in Naga City received their year-end financial assistance yesterday morning.
During the ceremonial distribution at the Enan Chiong Activity Center in barangay East Poblacion, Mayor Valdemar Chiong said the city had allocated almost P5 million for the elderly.
Chiong believes it is the duty and responsibility of the city government to ensure that the elderly are extended the benefits and services they deserve under the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 or Republic Act (RA) 9994.
Chiong said this idea was sparked by the fact that some of the elderly are suffering from poverty and therefore deserve full government support during their twilight years. (FREEMAN)
