CEBU, Philippines -  Lapu-Lapu City Police Office director PSSupt. Rey Lyndon Lawas and personnel from the Firearms Explosives Security Service Agency and Guards Supervisory Section and Lapu-Lapu City Fire Department inspected stalls and manufacturing area of firecrackers and pyrotechnics in barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday morning.

Lawas said the inspection is necessary in order to prevent untoward incidents that could cause injuries, damage to property, and even loss of lives.

He said, “We make sure the proper precautionary measures are being complied with by the traders and manufacturers.”

He said retailers must not exceed what they are only allowed to sell and manufacturers should have an isolated area for powder.

He also said firecrackers should only be sold in Babag, the designated area.

Lawas said zero injury is being eyed for this New Year, and telling firecracker and pyrotechnics retailers and vendors to refrain from selling these items to minors.

He has also warned makers and sellers against employing minors.

Lawas said he will work closely with baranagy officials.

Lawas said this year’s injuries number only three on Christmas Day.

Last year recorded five cases.  (FREEMAN)
