80% of barangays in Lapu-Lapu now have power

Jose P. Sollano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Mactan Electric Company yesterday said power has returned to 80 percent of the barangays since Friday evening after Super Typhoon Yolanda hit the city.

Lapu-Lapu City, like other cities and municipalities, experienced a blackout as the typhoon raged.

As of yesterday afternoon, barangay Pusok where the City Hall, the police station, and other offices are located, still did not have electricity.

MECO engineers are hastening the repair of damaged lines and poles, officials said.

Only a few houses were reported damaged by the typhoon, officials said.

Hundreds of evacuees went to different gyms in barangays and there served food by City Social Welfare Office personnel.

A resident of barangay Buaya was injured after getting hit by a tree trunk while repairing his house Friday morning.  (FREEMAN)
