CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Councilor Danny Caballero wants to look into the reported series of loud blasts in the upland barangay of Manipis.
“Mga 8 a.m. gahapon (Monday) unya gisundan og alas 10 sa buntag. Among gi-inspect ang area from 1 in the afternoon onwards, wa na’y ni-follow nga boto,†Caballero said.
“Then mga 8 a.m. naa napud, nitay-og kuno ilang yuta. Si kapitan nitawag na nako kay sunod naman. Pag 5 a.m. (Tuesday) nana say lain. Mao na’y ipa-investigate na nako, with the help of the local police para matan-aw nato kung unsa g’yud ni,†Caballero said.
Caballero heads the committee on Peace and Order and Public Safety in the city council.
The councilor said he is worried with the situation of the people there especially the elderly and the sick who are still traumatized by the magnitude 7.2 earthquake just a few weeks ago.
“Ang mga masakiton ug mga tiguwang, the more nga ma-trauma,†he said.
Barangay captain Pedro Cabiluna had to appeal to the local school to suspend classes following last Monday’s repeated blasts for fear that these would destroy the classrooms and put the children at risk.
Caballero said that from his talk last Monday with Cabiluna, he learned that the area has no mined site or treasure hunters who could have possibly used explosions to dig holes in the ground.
With those two possible causes ruled out, the councilor said they are still clueless.
“Karon ra man sad kuno ni nahitabo. Kusog kaayo. Grabe kahugot nga gikan sa ilawom matud pa sa mga residente ug ni Kap,†Caballero said. (FREEMAN)
