Tipsy man stabs, wounds 4 persons

CEBU, Philippines - An allegedly drunken man stabbed and wounded three men and a woman as he went wild after being allegedly teased by another woman inside Del Castillo Compound in barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City at 2 a.m. yesterday dawn.

Police arrested Rony Villaflores, 44, who is said to have ran for councilor in the recent barangay elections but lost. He later tested positive for liquor.

Villaflores surrendered to the police.

PO1 Fredelo Quezon of the Subangdaku Police Station said Villaflores was walking past a group of residents who were drinking when one Nina Rose Escalante, 31, mocked him.

“Gi-ingnan niini ang suspek nga “Naa na ang bayot,” Quezon said.

Villaflores confronted Escalante and an argument ensued between them, Quezon said.

Moments later, Villaflores went home and fetched a knife.

He returned to the group and stabbed the neighbors who tried to calm him down.

Joy Avila, 34, Catherine Branzuela, 44, Michale Dane Ordaniza, 26, and Rosendo Avila, 65, suffered cuts in the different parts of their body and were taken to the Vicente Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

His mother, Lydia Villaflores, 60, who also tried to pacify him, also sustained a minor laceration on her forehead.

Police believe that ill feelings toward Escalante made Villaflores flare up.

Villaflores is presently detained at the Subangdaku police station pending the filing of charges against him. (FREEMAN)
