CEBU, Philippines - Listening to the Word of God in Scripture (Lectio Divina) is a traditional way of cultivating friendship with Christ. It is a way of listening to the texts of Scripture as if the person was in a conversation with Christ and He was suggesting a topic of conversation. The daily encounter with Christ and reflection on His word leads the people beyond acquaintanceship, to an attitude of friendship, trust and love.
Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that prepares a person to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, the gift wherein the person experiences the presence of God within him, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer then conciousness itself.
This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship.
