Talisay, MEPZ firm to help residents find work

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City council has authorized Mayor Johnny De los Reyes to enter into a memorandum of agreement with a business establishment that will help people land jobs.

Councilor Doroteo Emit, chairman of the committee on labor and employment, said the Metro Wear Incorporated has responded to the “Adopt a Talisaynon” program of the city government.

According to Emit, the program suggests that 40 percent of companies’ total worker population should be city residents.

Under the agreement, the company, located at the Mactan Export Processing Zone 1 in Lapu-Lapu City, is engaged in apparel manufacturing for export needing and requiring the services involving work or skills directly related to its sewing business and operations.

“The party believes that the city and the Metro Wear can mutually maximize their resources and experience so as to provide potential employment to those who are qualified applicants and trainees,” Emit said.

In its agreement, the city government will provide the facility within the six-month period.

Metro Ware plans to hire 1,500 new workers.  (FREEMAN)
